Obviously I just loved 'Watch The Throne' last year but I knew that this would not be a rehash of it. As much as I would love that, Kanye West is anything but a static musician and he is able to move on from a particular sound quite well to ensure that his music still sounds fresh. I can't help but thinking this process has been overdone in 'Yeezus'. The focus is on the bizarre samples mixed with louder and seemingly less coherent rap. Once the initial shock factor subsides, this is all a bit much for me. I can't stop thinking how much this reminds me of Death Grips. A whole album of this sound is just too much but one positive is that it is only 40 minutes. I certainly enjoyed some of this, even if this was concentrated towards the top of the album. By the end of it I felt quite drained out and, unlike 'Watch The Throne', I don't think this is a record that is best listened to from start to finish but rather bit by bit. This definitely would help me enjoy it a bit more because this is his least accessible sound thus far. I have been so hit-and-miss with Kanye over the years, but this lands in the middle of that somewhere.
Nopes.
Right now I have similar thoughts to the chap above me, cept my personal hit-and-miss ratio for Kanye is much more often 'hit' (and I find he has a way to turn his 'misses' into 'hits') but anyway the think that interests me most would be hearing this stuff live (need to go to more gigs anyways) as that SNL performance of Black Skinhead (best song on record) and New Slaves was astonishing

It's grown to a 5 now, the short length sure makes it his most replayable record yet

The lyrics are really not that bad, Kanye's always been massively under-appreciated as a lyricist and quite often underneath the silly jokes is something more endearing, I would go into fanboy detail but can't be arsed

Nein danke....
gut
This is interesting. Basically a little more than half the album has some raw and solid hip-hop track, yet this effort is put to waste due to a few dud tracks.

From what I have heard on the album, 'Yeezus' explores a few topics and expresses it in his rapping aggressively and passionately. This varies from his religious perspectives (Fundamentalism) (mostly Anti-Religious rants as seen in 'Black Skinhead' (which is great minus the lyrics) and 'I Am A God' (which I find disappointing)), relationships, and struggles. Then there a few tracks what talk about stories and how they are/were nutted out.

'Watch The Throne' (by Kanye West & Jay-Z) was an excellent hip-hop album which combined raw and polished rapping mixed with some nifty and great samples. 'Yeezus' does this as well, but in a lower quality than 'Watch The Throne'. Some of the sampling and rapping is great as seen in 'Black Skinhead', 'New Slaves' (which features Frank Ocean), 'Hold My Liquor', and 'Blood On The Leaves' which are probably the best tracks from the album. The rest are either average or bad, especially 'I Am A God' and 'I'm In It' (which features Bon Iver) which are the worst tracks on the album from me.

What I do not understand about this album though is the positive critical reception this album is receiving. Could it be due to the themes he raps about or the way the production is executed vehemently? I dunno, I think it is a overrated; 'Watch The Throne' was much better, along with a few of his other albums, which too have a few dud tracks which bring the rating down.

I am rating this album 3.6*/6* (rounding it up to 4*, or 3/5). This could've been a 3/6, but the production in general brings the total up, and the better tracks just about outweight the worse tracks.
nix billig, kanye kanns einfach. beste!
i really dont know about this album ...
What I must say that this is a VERY peculiar album, and a bit of a letdown after the brilliance of his two previous solo albums.

Obviously, this is an artistic Kanye West, very experimental. This is music you wouldn't hear on commercial radio for the most part, with many of the songs having an odd structure which can be a bit of a shock to the system for people who are accustomed to the generic pop music of today.

For the first half of the album, it almost sounds as if Kanye isn't rapping, but rather aggressively yelling at his audience, rapping off many lines with a sheer, uncontrollable venom it seems. Though it isn't always pleasant for listeners, it's very easy to tell how passionate Kanye is with the content he has here.

Then it changes a little towards the end of the album, as if there is an almost complete change of feeling, culminating in the sampling bonanza that is "Bound 2". Given the eccentricities of the album, it can't be said that this is unexpected however.

The quality of rapping probably wasn't as good for me as usual from him, except there were a few standouts, particularly "New Slaves". Kanye was raving about the brilliance of this album, but it didn't live up to the hype for me.

The highlights for me were "Black Skinhead" and "New Slaves", with "Blood On The Leaves" and "Bound 2" impressing to a lesser extent.

Overall, a bit up and down overall, but the better tracks win me over in one of the strangest listening experiences in recent memory. If I were to listen to it again, I'd probably skip a fair amount of the songs.

Now I'm hoping that he goes back to the ways of "808s & Heartbreak" and "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" for his upcoming albums, but with his obsession of the quality of this album, unfortunately, I don't expect to see it.
Something about this album that is pure brilliance. I can't listen to it very much, but when I do it's just great. He loses a point for being a douchebag.
It's already easy to see that this album is in the shadow of its predecessor. It's easy for me to say that in fairness, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is just a better album. Kanye goes for a different direction with this one and it's not without its merits. The bravado of "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is still there, but the grandiose is replaced by something more unusual, making the album almost sound like was produced by Death Grips.

I find Kanye's rhyming on this album to be more memorable than it is proficient. That's never been his strong point, although I do still get a kick out of seeing him intentionally trying to piss people off (and succeeding!) as much of it is depicting a larger than life character. That said, "Bound 2" is a good closer that brings it back to reality.

But yes, I enjoyed this album. 4.6
2 gute Dinge an diesem Album:

2. Es endet.
Sehr starkes, kontroverses Album.

Highlights: Black Skinhead, New Slaves, Blood On The Leaves
Easily one of his most controversial releases and at a time I feel he was trying to find his authenticity in his style which for me hasn't really appealed to me since. No matter the commentary and the hate he receives he still can dish up some decent offerings from time to time and it's no different here.
But as a whole project I can't grasp it as a whole which is disappointing.

31/60
Gut
Super!
