Sehr starkes Album der Boys von 1971.

Mässiges, spätes Beach-Boys-Album mit sehr wenigen Highlights. 4+
Stimme dir absolut zu, grundsolide LP, kein Titel fällt besonders auf..
3.7*

This album is a mess. Sure, there's the occasional highlight, but much of it is a bit lacking.

This album's original title was "Landlocked" and had a completely different track line-up....again like the previous album "Sunflower" was rejected by Reprise Records. The record company suggested bringing in Van Dyke Parks (Brian's collaborator for the "SMiLE" album) too revive the track "Surf's Up".
The result was using the original track and adding a new vocal coda/refrain to the song... this tipped Brian over the edge and he suffered a third nervous breakdown due too the rest of The Beach Boys & management using and releasing his song "Surf's Up" ("SMiLE" albums centrepiece) completely against his wishes.
Then....dump a couple of tracks and adding Brian's track "Til' I Die" which Mike Love fought tooth and nail not to include....thankfully that track survived because it is the best track on the album.... it shows where Brian's thoughts were at the time (not in a good place).
Brian got he's own back by asking new manager Jack Riley to sing on his track " A Day In The Life Of A Tree".... the result was tragic...yet Brian has always been amused by the whole event to this day.
The rest of the album has great moments and average moments...the best being...Carl Wilson's "Long Promised Road" & "Feel Flows" and Bruce Johnston's "Disney Girls (1957)".
